A Cebuano’s Photography Experiments
I just had my first taste of street photography and on this occassion, we invaded Cebu Carbon Market. The challenge was not on the photo composition since there were quite a lot to take, I just needed a lot of luck and tons of creative thinking. The challenge was making through carbon in one piece, which meant that you and your camera are still together.
It meant that I had not only have to be quick with looking at my 360 degrees area but equally important was to be sensitive of curious people who may want to have your camera as their own - that was the challenge. Otherwise, it was quite a wonderful learning experience being a newbie amongst the experienced ones. I would look forward to more group photo sessions with those guys.
One heartwarming thought during that activity was that, we Filipinos, are really happy people. Everytime our lenses pointed to anyone we deemed to be interesting subjects would instinctively open a smile. The advantage being that it meant that the subject was fine with you taking a photograph of him or her but the disadvantage was that it would in a way take out the candidness of how you may have wanted your shot to be composed. Never mind the crowded and bustling tradings that goes on, it always is an intinct for us to give the best smile to the cameras. The lense gods must be very fond of us.
